Using Classical Synthesis Techniques

The KEM-Prep reactor is the ideal instrument for versatile and productive solution phase parallel synthesis. The KEM-Prep reactor heats or cools 24 parallel glass reactors (temperature range: -100 to 150C) and even establishes a sustained reflux with no reactor cross contamination. A Teflon septum cover allows reagent addition and sampling reaction content in each of the 24 reaction vessels. Reactors sit inside a sealed chamber which is continuously swept with nitrogen or argon gas maintaining an inner atmosphere in each of the reactor vessels. Mixing is achieved by either mounting the reactor on a bench top shaker (recommended) or using magnetic stirring. Heating is provided by a built-in heating element with regulation of +/- 0.1C using J-KEM's digital temperature controller. The KEM-Prep reactor also has an internally milled and sealed coolant flow path that surrounds all the reactors. When used with J-KEM's circulating chiller, reactions down to -100C can be run on an open bench top.

6-Position KEM-Prep Jr

Same features as the KEM-Prep Reactor, but with a smaller footprint this is the ideal reactor when running a limited number of reactions. Six individual reaction tubes are heated, cooled, or refluxed in an inert atmosphere. The KEM-Prep Jr fits on a standard magnetic stirrer which stirs all 6 reactions simultaneously.

Built-in heater

The solvent evaporator for the KEM-Prep reactor or KEM-Prep Jr reactor simultaneously evaporates solvent from each reaction position. The evaporator fits on top of the reactor and directs a stream of nitrogen gas into each reaction tube through individual stainless steel needles. The height of the needles are continuously adjustable to maintain the proper separation between solvent and needle for efficient evaporation. The evaporator offers not only the convenience of concentrating reactions in the reactor base without the need of moving them to a dedicated concentrator, but the heater built into the KEM-Prep or KEM-Prep Jr can be used to heat samples further reducing the time required for evaporation.
