J-KEM introduces a new line of custom robotic, the Eclipse workstation.  The Eclipse workstation is easily customized and available with 1 to 5 addressable axes.  Two axis (X,Y) workstations start under $10,000.  The Eclipse is offered either as the robot only, for customers who want to program their own application, or fully programmed for standard or custom applications.

A new approach to workstation design and programming
The distinction of J-KEM's Phoenix Robotic Workstation is the user friendly design of both its hardware and software.  The Phoenix workstation overcomes the limitations of conventional robotics by allowing users to rapidly construct new workstation layouts and write new programs.  Both hardware and software are optimized to support user redesign.
Software - J-KEM's robotic command language uses English style scripts to direct the actions of the workstation, such as MOVE(X,1000,3) [i.e., move to position 1000 on the X axis at a speed of 3], BALANCE(TARE), etc.  The intuitive meaning of the script commands makes it easy to write or modify a workstation procedure.  Script Interpreter and Command Generator are companion applications supplied with J-KEM's robotic command language that simplify writing workstation procedures, even by non-programmers.
Hardware - Strong and versatile, every component of the hardware is open for user modification.  Custom Z-axis modules attach to the workstation with the features needed for your application: grippers, septum penetrating needle, disposable tips, or custom modules.

Task Defined Vs. Non-Task Defined Workstation
J-KEM offers the first non-task defined workstation for research.  Other manufacturers offer workstations that perform specific tasks such as weighing, synthesis, dissolution, or solid phase extraction (SPE).  The deficiency of these instruments is that once the workstation is configured for SPE, for example, it can't be reconfigured for a new application, such as weighing.  This fixed design of the workstation makes it a task defined workstation.  The inflexibility of task defined workstations results in premature obsolescence when they can 't be reconfigured to perform new tasks required by changing research needs.
In contrast, J-KEM's Phoenix system allows the researcher complete freedom of hardware layout and software control.  A Phoenix workstation configured for SPE can be reconfigured for weighing and reaction mapping in less than one day, including software development.  The freedom to change the task performed by the workstation as the need for automation changes is the distinguishing characteristic of J-KEM's non-task defined Phoenix workstation.

How the Phoenix System Works
The heart of the Phoenix system is J-KEM's Robotic Controller.  The robotic controller interprets English-style string commands sent from the PC and turns them into workstation actions.  This allows workstation procedures to be written in any PC programming language.  The robotic controller also provides a versatile interface to commonly needed accessories such as temperature controllers, balances, pH probes, vortexers, etc.
