Custom Reactor Design

The key to automation of solid phase synthesis is controlling the pressure, mixing, and filtering of solvent in the reactor cells in an unattended fashion. No solid phase synthesis reactor design exceeds the elegant simplicity of J-KEM's SPS reactor. The SPS reactor uses no valves, special tubing or any device requiring operator intervention to control the retention of solvent in the reactor cell.

The SPS reactor works by applying nitrogen back pressure on the frit of the reactor cell to exactly offset the pull of gravity on the reaction solvent.  The key to the SPS reactor is the precise control ( ± 0.002 psi) of reactor pressure. Agitation of the reaction mixtures is achieved by setting the reactor pressure slightly above the "holding pressure" for vigorous mixing.

The SPS solid phase pressure regulator controls the entire reaction process. The regulator can set the pressure for 'holding' solvent at the frit or for varying degrees of bubbling. The regulator also applies vacuum through the waste port of the reactor during filtering steps. The SPS-REG regulator is controlled via its front panel keypad or by a remote PC as part of a robotic solid phase synthesis station.

SPS-RB Reflux block heater for solid phase synthesis reactors. Reflux blocks secure to top plate surrounding reactors to heat, cool, or set up reflux action.
SPS-Micro
SPS-Micro Microplate pressurized reactor for use with 0.8 or 2 ml fritted microtiter plate reactors.  Accepts standard deepwell plate as collection block.

SPS Pressure Regulator and Components
SPS-REG Computer controlled pressure regulator for solid phase synthesis blocks. Computer regulator maintains pressure (± 0.002 psi) inside the SPS reactor during reaction, setup, wash, and collection cycles.
SPS-WV Waste valve for solid phase reactor. The waste valve regulates vacuum inside the reactor base during solvent wash and waste cycles.
SPS-HCR Inlet gas pressure regulator, high capacity.  Regulates inlet N2 pressure.
SPS Concentrator Components
SPS-CC48 Sample concentration cover for 48 position reactor.   Cover directs a steam of nitrogen gas into each individual collection vessel.

NGH-240 Nitrogen Gas Heater.  Built-in digital temperature controller heats and regulates nitrogen gas temperature used with the concentrator cover.  400° C maximum.
